Privacy notice

1. Who we are

Getprop is a private company based in Kuils River, Cape Town, South Africa. We are the responsible party for the personal information described in this notice. You can reach our Information Officer at privacy@getprop.co.za.

2. What we collect

• From buyers: name, contact details, identity number, area and property preferences, budget, deposit, bond pre-approval status or proof of funds.
• From sellers: name, contact details, identity number, property address and erf number, title deed and ownership information, municipal account status, bond position, asking price.
• From agencies: agency and practitioner details, PPRA registration number, Fidelity Fund Certificate number and expiry, areas of operation.
• Automatically: basic website analytics such as pages visited and approximate location.

3. Why we process it

We process your information to verify who you are, to assess whether a buyer and a seller are a genuine match, to make and record introductions, to meet our obligations under FICA and other applicable law, and to contact you about your enquiry. We do not process your information for any purpose you have not been told about.

4. Special personal information and identity numbers

Identity numbers and financial information are collected only where they are necessary to verify you or to comply with the law. They are not shared with the other party to an introduction unless you have specifically agreed to it.

5. Who we share it with

• The other party to an introduction — and only after both sides are verified, and only the details needed to make contact and view the property.
• Partner agencies — registered property practitioners, where you have asked to be introduced to their listings.
• Service providers — hosting, email and verification providers who process data on our written instruction.
• Regulators and law enforcement — where we are legally required to.

We do not sell your personal information to anyone, and we do not send it outside South Africa except to hosting providers that offer an adequate level of protection.

6. How long we keep it

Enquiries that go nowhere are deleted after 12 months. Where an introduction was made, we keep the introduction record and the supporting verification for five years, because it may be needed to resolve a dispute or to meet FICA record-keeping obligations.

7. Your rights

• Ask us what personal information we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct or delete information that is wrong, out of date or no longer needed.
• Withdraw your consent at any time, which will stop any further matching or introductions.
• Object to processing on reasonable grounds.
• Complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe we have handled your information unlawfully.

8. Security

Access to our records is restricted to Getprop staff who need it, the site is served over HTTPS, and our lead data is stored outside the public web directory. No system is perfect — if a breach affects your information, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

9. Changes

If we change this notice we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is material, contact you directly.
